It's interesting how people change, both mentally and physically. I started lifting in 2013 and it was the start to so much physcial, mental, and even emotional growth.
I remember not being able to do a sit up, which is comical to think back to since I became fixated on core workouts. I used to workout in my room until I was able to curl more than 5 pounds. Ahah. .
I started working out as an emotional outlet. It was cool because the experience was a conversion of emotion: all negative emotions became positive ones. .
Eventually I began to set goals. I wanted to get more definition and put on weight using muscle mass. It definitely took a lot of time. But throughout the process I was able to put on a couple inches in my waist and bust and gained 20 pounds of muscle. .
I gained more interest in lifting, as means for gaining weight. And this set me off onto such an adventure of knowledge. I had to mentally push myself to keep lifting more and to try new workouts in order to grow, so I researched alot. It wasn't always easy because some workouts felt weird and some weights just felt really heavy. It was honestly a mental battle because on off days the weights that I could usually lift, felt too heavy. It was discouraging but also, rewarding when mentally conquering my own barriers.
It instilled tenacity within me, pushing me to keep fighting for more, not just within fitness but in life. It lead me to pursue education. And now I'm working on both. It's hard to balance in lifting with everything life fills your time with, but fitness is not limited to the gym, it's a lifestyle. Walk instead of drive! Flex throughout the day. Take the stairs. Stretch when you watch whatever it is that you watch. Laugh. Drink tea and water. When picking up heavy things, lift then with proper form and add in some reps for fun. Do calf raises while waiting for the crosswalk to change.
Lift the bar, and keep that as a standard for yourself💪🏻 (Photo is relaxed, not flexed)
