Take a quick sec from scrolling🛑Some of you may not be aware of the ensuing Congressional vote on DECEMBER 14th on the ‘Restoring Internet Freedom Order’ put forward by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai. Don’t be fooled by the name of this order, though, as it does anything but restore individual freedoms. If this is passed by Congress, network providers like Comcast, AT&T and Verizon will have the power to throttle distribution of internet traffic and censor anyone using their internet services based on their own private, money-making interests.
Do you use Netflix? Spotify? What about Reddit? Under these new rules, those sites and services may receive less than their fair share of bandwidth, or be blocked all together. Imagine Reddit, the 9th most visited website in the world, being blacklisted by your ISP so when attempting to connect to it to discuss your political beliefs, learn new skills, or make new friends…you can’t. Repealing Net Neutrality is a great way to silence voices across the world. It is a way to stifle innovation and force a single version of the truth upon the citizens of The United States of America.
Do you own a small business? Do you compete with a larger, more well established business? Under these new rules, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) could be the auctioneers in a bidding war between your business and your competitor. Who has more money or the inside connection? That’s who wins. Good luck getting traffic to your blog, or website, or application when ISPs throttle everyone on their network trying to connect to you because you didn’t pay as much as the other guy.
Please take a few minutes to educate yourself about this important issue, as we are almost out of time to make our voices heard.
